Pasadena Lookout
Project Overview
The Pasadena Lookout project involved resurfacing a large outdoor staircase and lookout platform using Paramount Coating's ParaStone System. The goal was to deliver a durable, aesthetic solution that enhanced the natural beauty of the homeowner’s property while ensuring a smooth, slip-resistant finish suitable for high traffic.
Objectives
The primary objective was to resurface and restore the staircase and lookout platform, bringing a modern and functional finish while preserving the rustic charm of the surroundings. The client sought a solution that could withstand the elements and heavy use, while also complementing the architectural design.
Challenges
The project presented unique challenges due to the structure’s design:
Numerous Stairs: The extensive stairway posed a physical challenge for the crew, requiring careful coordination for both surface preparation and material application.
Vertical-to-Horizontal Transitions: The project’s many transitions from steps to flat platforms increased the complexity of maintaining a consistent finish. Achieving a uniform look with ParaStone required precision in angle and technique to ensure consistency across surfaces.
Innovative Solutions
To address the challenges of numerous transitions and ensure a seamless application, Paramount Coating developed a specialized approach:
The team focused on applying ParaStone with precise angles during the spray process, ensuring a consistent and even finish from the vertical risers to horizontal treads.
Additional care was taken to adapt the spraying technique, ensuring smooth transitions between all surfaces while maintaining the natural look and feel of the stone.
Materials Utilized
PCA 121 Primer: Provided the necessary adhesion to the existing substrate, ensuring the surface was properly prepared for the overlay.
ParaStone System: A high-performance, decorative concrete overlay custom-matched to the surrounding stone, giving a natural and seamless appearance.
ParaSeal-19: Applied as the final sealant, offering enhanced durability and weather resistance to protect the surface for years to come.
Project Timeline
The entire project took 4 days to complete. Despite the physical demands and technical challenges, the team managed to meet the timeline without compromising quality or the aesthetic finish.
Collaboration and Execution
Paramount Coating collaborated closely with Tony House and his team at Black Rock Coatings, who managed and executed the project. Their expertise ensured the successful application of the ParaStone System, maintaining the high standards Paramount is known for.
Results and Impact
The final outcome was exceptional. The resurfaced stairs and lookout platform not only restored the area’s functionality but also enhanced its visual appeal. The ParaStone System provided a sleek, natural look that blended seamlessly with the property’s environment. Two years after installation, the surfaces remain in excellent condition, showcasing the durability of the materials and the quality of the application.
Client Feedback
The homeowner was thrilled with the results, particularly the aesthetic transformation and the long-lasting durability of the surface. They expressed satisfaction with the seamless transitions between the stairs and lookout platform, and even extended the scope of work to cover additional areas.
